Susan Benson, LMFT I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I earned an MS degree from the University of Rhode Island and am accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists as a Clinical Supervisor. As a Clinical Supervisor, I provide supervision to Master's level clinical trainees who seek to become supervisors or seek their own licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists. In addition to my private counseling practice and supervisory activities, I was also an adjunct professor at the Uniiversity of Rhode Island for 15 years. I am certified as a Gottman Educator and will be fascilitating marriage workshops based on John Gottman's bestselling book "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work." I use a wide variety of well-proven, effective, nonjudgmental counseling techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gottman methodology, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. Those therapies offer reliable methods of treatment to both individuals and couples. Additionally, I have several years of clinical practice experience in working with individuals and families struggling with substance abuse. I have worked with clients who are prescribed methadone or suboxone and focus treatment tailored specifically to each individual.
